Who is someone you admire, and why?
As a fan of the Miami Heat, I have always admired their team President and basketball legend, Pat Riley. I have been fascinated with him since I first read a story of his perseverance during my childhood featured in an edition of Chicken Soup for the Soul. I then grew up to eventually read a book that he authored called The Winner Within: A Life Plan for Team Players. In my opinion, Riley does an outstanding job of blending team concepts in sports and business in this book, and I have viewed those around me in every sort of team setting differently ever since.
Riley demands excellence and is a no-nonsense businessman and team leader of the Miami Heat, dealing with strong personalities such as those of Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Earvin “Magic” Johnson, Patrick Ewing, Alonzo Mourning, Shaquille O’Neal, Dwyane Wade, LeBron James, and Jimmy Butler during his 55-year career with numerous championships to his name as a player, coach, and executive. He is the type of person I would like to be one day. It all starts with being a team player and giving it your all no matter the type of team, the size, or the stakes. I truly believe in that.
If you could spend a week anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
I would like to visit Spain for the first time and explore all parts of the country, ranging from the countryside to major cities such as Barcelona and Madrid. I would like to surround myself with an old-world culture and learn more about a place so far away from home but one where I have familial ties. I know that the food, people, and music would be incredible, so hopefully, a week would give me enough time to experience it all!
