Subscriber Benchmarking Report Release

Unprecedented data set, valuable reference for the American Newspaper industry
Matt Lindsay, President of Mather Economics

Last month, Mather Economics launched our inaugural Subscription Benchmarking Report. Due to the high volume of inquiries from non-Mather clients, we want to present an abbreviated version.  This report will provide you insights to benchmarks and strategies to accelerate the growth of your organization.

Requests and Inquiries

The Mather team has worked for several months to bring data together in a consistent, normalized manner suitable for benchmarking across hundreds of publishers in North America. This report contains over a year’s worth of subscriber data, reported weekly, for digital only and hybrid (print + digital) subscribers at over 300 newspapers. More publishers will be added to the document as we receive the necessary data for their markets. This is an unprecedented data set, and these benchmarks are a valuable reference for the American Newspaper industry.

Metrics and Benchmarks To Impact Your Bottom Line

This report benchmarks for over 50 metrics that cover acquisition, retention, average subscriber rates, and subscriber revenue. These metrics are reported for sub-categories of subscribers and for geographic regions. We have added insights throughout the document that we hope will be helpful to you as you manage your subscriber base.

These benchmarks will be published quarterly.  If you would like to participate in this initiative, please contact mediabenchmarking@mathereconomics.com.
