As Senior Director, Matthew Lulay oversees the consulting operations of the firm, including the ongoing pricing management of over 400 newspapers. Matthew has extensive experience in microeconomics and its application to the media industry, where his analysis has helped drive revenue and mitigate volume loss in several dozen markets across the United States and abroad. Matthew’s research recently has focused on predictive churn analysis—a process for identifying at-risk accounts to support the development of more efficient retention efforts. With Matthew’s analytical skills, our clients can estimate customer lifetime value and understand the operating margin of individual subscribers.
In addition to his work in the media industry, Matthew has authored several white papers on environmental economics, including a model forecasting the employment effects of increased funding along the Gulf Coast region following the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. He has extensive experience collecting, formatting and analyzing data from various state, national, and international sources including the Bureau of Labor Statistics, the Federal Reserve, and the World Bank.
Matthew holds a Master of Science degree in Economics from Florida Atlantic University and a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics, magna cum laude, from the University of Minnesota Duluth.
What is your favorite thing about your career?
I think the consulting industry is incredibly challenging, as we are constantly being asked to solve new and difficult business questions. The breadth of work and the difficulty level involved, however, have forced me to grow professionally in so many ways, and I’m definitely appreciative for the experience for that reason (among many others).
