Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR) is a Department of Defense program that develops and promotes supportive work environments for Service members in the Reserve Components and National Guard.  Since 1972, the program has led outreach initiatives to increase awareness of the rights and responsibilities for uniformed Service members and their civilian employers.  ESGR highlights civilian employers through awards at the request of service members to recognize their employer’s commitment to them and national security.

The Patriot Award recognizes support provided by a supervisor directly to the nominating Service member. “I personally nominated Dustin Tetley, Managing Director of Mather Economics, for the Patriot Award for two reasons.  First, to acknowledge the additional effort on his part to maintain an ongoing open line of communication, make staffing adjustments, and assign projects that fit my military schedule.  Secondly, to signal to other Service members that Mather Economics provides a work environment conducive to successfully balancing a civilian and military career”, said Brian Brown.

Brian enlisted in the Army Reserves as a Specialist (E4) in 2017. He has been an employee at Mather Economics for three years during which he has been able to advance both his military and civilian careers. Being able to attend Basic Combat Training, Advance Individual Training, Officer Candidate School, and Basic Officer Leadership Course has enabled him to reach his current position of Second Lieutenant in the Financial Management and Comptroller branch. Consistently being put in a position to contribute after returning from training has also helped him earn a promotion to Senior Manager at Mather Economics during this period.
