Hi Gilles, you’re recently joined Mather Economics, can you tell us a bit about yourself and your background before joining our team?

GH: In my previous experience, I worked for a Belgian consulting firm that helps companies do business in China. With an academic background in Chinese linguistics as well as management, I quickly became involved in a project revolving around Chinese e-commerce. There I learned the importance of clear communication in a cross-cultural business context.

What attracted you to Mather, and what made you decide to join the team?

GH: What really attracted me to Mather was the international aspect. Being able to combine my previous experience as an intercultural communicator in a ‘western’ and commercial setting struck me as the ideal challenge!

What is your role, and what does a typical day look like for you?

GH: I am the Business Development Manager at Mather Economics Europe. This means that I am responsible for acquiring new business for Mather in Europe from our offices in Antwerp, Belgium. I am constantly in contact with our local team here in Belgium, European stakeholders, and our teams in the USA and Canada.

What are your goals for the future within Mather?

GH: As basically a start-up here in Europe, my main goals are to understand what makes European publishers tick, what keeps them up at night. This allows me to make sure that we at Mather can engage in long-term partnerships with publishers to maximize their revenue and ensure the longevity of high-quality news media.

Are there any specific projects or initiatives you’re excited to be a part of in the coming months?

GH: As basically a start-up here in Europe, my main goals are to understand what makes European publishers tick, what keeps them up at night. This allows me to make sure that we at Mather can engage in long-term partnerships with publishers to maximize their revenue and ensure the longevity of high-quality news media.

Can you share a fun or interesting fact about yourself that your colleagues might not know?

GH: With my passion for languages, I strive to learn at least ‘hello’ and ‘thank you’ in as many languages as I can manage.

Is there a hobby or passion outside of work that you enjoy?

Judo!
